Line of Duty Confirmed for 7th Season on BBC
The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode series created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the production team.
The actress expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The last series concluded in 2021 with a final episode that drew in over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only came recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
The seventh season begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for busts of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a offender.
Yet, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the background, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had countless fans track the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new season."
He added: "Corruption in this country is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston described appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."
"Pleased with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."
Show History
The drama premiered in the early 2010s and became a highly successful television series of the last decade, featuring guest stars such as Kelly Macdonald.
Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.
The finale of season six brought the extended plot about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and the creative team said at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.
However, the corporation announced on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
