Mikel Arteta remains confident that his side can persist in handling with player absences following revealing that attacker Kai Havertz will not return for a few more weeks.

Extended Absence for Havertz

The Germany international has been out since the summer due to an operation on his knee. Hoped to return sooner, Arteta revealed the player encountered a problem when increasing his training and could not progress “to the next level.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a squad that is much more reliable and has greater depth,” commented Arteta.

Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash

This development presents a tactical puzzle for Wednesday’s fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. The manager needs to decide between persisting with Mikel Merino, who scored playing out of position last weekend, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return after a fitness issue as a substitute. Fitness Doubts Linger

Further fitness issues involve defender William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the Chelsea match. As a result, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to continue in the backline for the table-toppers.

The manager is convinced the £250m spend on reinforcements ahead of this season has left Arsenal in a more robust situation to handle such setbacks.

In response if a larger pool of players was benefiting their championship push, his response was positive. “Absolutely, as this campaign has presented greater challenges in some areas, and now the situation with the defence,” he noted.

“We learned from the past that we have to use players in various roles, and they need to be prepared to perform various functions if we are to fight at the highest level. And the case of Mikel is just the best one.”
