The Blue Jays Secure World Series Meeting Versus defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer was instrumental for the Astros securing the championship in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their first World Series following 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.

Behind by two runs, the star outfielder delivered a three-run home run in the seventh, leading the Toronto squad in the majors to a 4-3 triumph in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the Dodgers, who are the reigning title, in the anticipated World Series.

"I'm thrilled for our team, our city, Canada," said Springer, a star of the Astros team that won the 2017 title. "It's truly an incredible feeling."

Springer has now slugged twenty-three playoff homers, ranking him third in history after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).

"I can't think of anyone else in the world that I'd prefer in that situation except for George Springer with his post-season brilliance," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, despite leading the early in the series, remain the sole team never to appear in a World Series.

Manager Dan Wilson said "without a doubt that it's painful" after his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but applauded their performance this season.

"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we ended up on the losing end of this game," he added.

Toronto claimed the World Series on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Los Angeles in game one on Friday.
