The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life away from worry.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a first responder, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
