The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building momentum.
Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
