President Donald Trump stated on the weekend that he has invited the relatives of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the White House.
He added that he conversed with her family and they were “devastated”.
Information on the Heartbreaking Event
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Gatherings across West Virginia have taken place in their remembrance.
Presidential Invitation
The president stated he’s talked about a White House visit for the loved ones of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to honor her,” the president addressed journalists. “And similarly with Andrew, recover or not.”
Public Support
Attendees gathered over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the state guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to support policing efforts in Washington DC.
Honoring the Soldier
“She was the kind of student that instructors desired. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged those around her,” Hankins, the leader of her alma mater, told the media. “She was sweet, compassionate and always ready to assist people.”
Funeral plans for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Legal Actions and Government Changes
Law enforcement have accused a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while armed.
The incident prompted the administration to halt asylum applications and cease issuing entry permits to owners of travel documents.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey stated on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi told a news show that she aimed to visit the family.
Impact of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, per the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had fortitude,” he informed the audience at the memorial. “Though her time was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
